Tom Bowling AIFD Named President of the American Institute of Floral Designers

BALTIMORE (July 2011) – Tom Bowling AIFD, PFCI of Fairfield, Ohio was installed as president of the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) during the organization's 2011 National Symposium held in San Francisco, July 4-9. He succeeds Sharon McGukin AIFD, AAF, PFCI, a freelance instructional designer and floral commentator from Carrollton, Ga., as the volunteer leader of the floral industry's leading organization in design education.

Installed as president-elect of AIFD was Ann Jordan AIFD, AAF of Studio Flora in Windham, Maine. John Kittinger AIFD of Lexington, Ky. was elected to serve as the Institute's vice president and Tim Farrell AIFD, AAF, PFCI of Farrell's Florist Inc of Drexel Hill, Pa. will take on the role as AIFD's new secretary. Richard Salvaggio AIFD, AAF of Teleflora in Los Angeles will continue to serve as treasurer of the Institute.

Joyce Mason-Monheim AIFD of Tucson, Ariz. was appointed to serve as the membership chairperson and Sylvia Bird AIFD, AAF, PFCI of Fort Myers, Fla. will take on the role as AIFD's 2012 symposium coordinator for Caliente taking place July 2012 in Miami, Fla.

Elected to serve a three year term as directors-at-large were Janet Black AIFD, AAF, PFCI of Designs Florist and Interiors of Bethel, ME and Ted Bruehl AIFD of The Chocolate Rose of Irving, Texas. Continuing to serve as directors at large are Mary Linda Horn AIFD, AAF, PFCI of Free Lance Designer of Ostrander, OH, Suzie Kostick AIFD of Cenflo, Inc./ FLORA Magazine of Rio Rancho, N.M., Bill McKinley AIFD of Kishwaukee College in Malta, Ill., and Ken Norman AIFD of Colony Florist of Midland Park, N.J.

Continuing to serve as regional chapter representatives are Jim Rauch AIFD of Unique Designs Florist Studio of Dayton, OH for the North Central Chapter, BJ Dyer AIFD, AAF of Bouquets of Denver, Colo. for the South Central Chapter, Michael Quesada AIFD of Kaleidscope Flowers of Santa Barbara, Calif. for the South West Chapter, and Mike Hollenbeck AIFD of Floral Artistry Espresso Garden of Lewiston, ID for the North West Chapter.

Thomas C. Shaner, CAE, continues as AIFD's executive director. AIFD is headquartered in Baltimore.
