Featuring: BJ Dyer AIFD, AAF, CPF

Magnetic Storm

(Check out the Program Slideshow Below)

BJ Dyer AIFD and his partner Guenther Vogt own Bouquets, a retail and event decor company in Denver. Since 1985, they have provided decor for hundreds of showpiece galas and society weddings. Bon Appetit magazine listed them among America's top ten florists.

They are Small Business Administration Hall of Fame inductees, and were twice runners-up for WFFSA "Retail Florist of the Year." BJ and Guenther have been on three Floral Management magazine covers, and are the only two-time recipients of Society of American Florists' prestigious "Marketer of the Year" award. BJ has been a featured designer in Florists' Review magazine and was teh winner of the first "Floral Association of the Rockies - Wedding Bouquet Design Competition." Brides voted him a "Best of Weddings" designation in The Knot Magazine.

BJ, Past-President of his Teleflora Unit, was a founding board member of the Colorado Retail Florists Association. Inducted in 2000, BJ is a member of the AIFD's National Board of Directors. He designed for the Wedding Finale at the 2008 AIFD Symposium.

NOTES:

Like most florists, you've only utilized pins to secure a corsage. Well, get ready for some creative attraction as the "Magnet Magnate" will magnify your options with an underused mechanic: the magic of magnetic force. You'll be astounded at the magnitude of intriguing ways that magnetism can make a florist's life easier. Magnets are magnificent for design mechanics, masterful for art and magical for profits.

Neodymium (pronounced knee-oh-dimmy-um, NOT knee-oh-dime-ee-um), also called "rare earth" magnets are the strongest and most permanent magnets in the world.

Neodymium-Iron-Boron magnets must be coated or plated to prevent oxidation. Chipped or scratched magnets may rust or corrode.

Remember:

  • Keep away from credit cards.
  • Keep away from pacemakers.
  • Magnets will erase video/audio tapes.
  • Keep away from hotel keys.
  • Keep away from computer monitors/TVs.
  • Never solder or weld. Heat removes the magnetism.
  • Never cut or drill. Magnets will shatter and the shards are dangerous.
  • Small children love magnets as toys, but they often swallow them.
  • With powerful magnets, always be aware of stray loose magnets if you are holding a magnet in your hand. They will fly through the air to meet each other, crushing your fingers in the process.
