NOTES:

Do your clients often express their inability to visualize your proposals? Discover new ways to present your design concepts to customers by illustrating your ideas. Earn your clients confidence and trust by sketching a "floral blueprint" of your creative designs. Find the artist within yourself, and take your creative expression to its highest potential.

Only a few basic tools are needed to begin sketching. Pencils come in varying degrees of lead, from hard to very soft (example, HB, 2B, 4B, & 6B, respectively). The harder leads (HB) are used to draw the actual outline or shape of the flower or object, then using the softer leads (2B, 4B, etc.) to begin the shading process. Although pencil is the primary sketching tool used, experiment with charcoal, colored pencils, or pastels to add color and dimension to your work. A good multi-purpose, lightly textured sketch pad paper (9"x12" or 12"x18" size pad) is ideal for sketching with various art techniques. A quality kneaded or vinyl eraser is needed for correcting mistakes or for highlighting or creating texture. Other helpful tools are a paper blending stump (called a tortillon) used for creating textures and blends in your drawing, and a sandpaper block to sharpen your pencils. A metal ruler is used for drawing straight lines, and lastly, a drawing board provides a stable surface for individual paper sketches.
