Ohio State Sweeps Student Design Competition
BALTIMORE (July 15, 2010) – An Ohio State University student made her mark on the American Institute of Floral Designers' (AIFD) 2010 Student Floral Design Competition. Bailey Anne Wilson from the college brought home a total of four awards from the competition that was held as part of AIFD's 2010 National Symposium in Boston, July 3-8.
Wilson garnered the People's Choice Award, an award for best design as voted on by the general public, as well as first place in the Overall Contest Winner category. She also received first place in the Buffet Design category and second place in the Napkin Décor Design category.
The competition consists of five categories: Overall, Buffet/Food Table Design, Napkin Floral Décor, Flowers to Carry – Bridal Bouquet Design, and Sweetheart Table Design. Lyndsay Bailey of the College of Southern Nevada garnered first place in the Sweetheart Table Design category. Rupali Shete of Triton College in River Grove, Ill. garnered first place in the Napkin Floral Décor category and Elisabeth Hall of Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif. garnered first place in the Flowers to Carry – Bridal Bouquet Design category. Cal Poly, under the direction of advisor Melinda Lynch AIFD, also received the Overall School Award.
Student AIFD (SAIFD) maintains chapters at 15 colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada. SAIFD Chapters not only compete in the Annual Student Design Competition during AIFD's National Symposium but also host Artist in Residence Programs throughout the year. Chapter members also receive sponsorships to attend the National Symposium from AIFD members and Industry Partners through the AIFD Foundation.
Open to the public, the 2011 National Symposium will be held in San Francisco (July 2-8, 2011).
