The Friday night cocktail party promises to be a very special evening with special people!
Jim Dempsey AIFD, CFD - "The Sun is Shining on Supermarket (Mass Market) Floral"
In this first of its kind program Jim will address the present economy where it is imperative to learn new skills in order to adapt to the current and future environment, an environment where timely and useful information is at a premium. Wouldn't it be nice to have information at your disposal that you could rely on and put to good use? Well that is exactly what you will find within this program. Jim will be your guide on a journey into the mysterious world of "product development" where he will explore the topics of producing botanical products from farm to table as well as chart a course through the ever changing environment that is supermarket (mass market) floral. All of this information and more is made possible so that you can be successful in what you do as professional floral designers.
Jim Dempsey AIFD, CFD received a Bachelors Degree in Horticulture from the State University of New York in 1999 and has since worked with many premier event florists both nationally and internationally. Jim has also served eight years in the United States Army and currently is the Lead Designer, Marketing and Design Specialist for the Sunshine Bouquet Company based in Dayton, New Jersey with satellite facilities in Miami, Florida and Bogota, Colombia. In 2009 Jim was inducted into AIFD in Kansas City, Mo., and has since appeared in two separate programs at this past year's AIFD Symposium in Boston, Mass. In addition, he has been a featured designer at the Philadelphia Flower Show as well as produced floats for Fiesta Parade Floats for the annual Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif. Jim is an avid runner and a firm believer in the power of tea!
Dottie Harrigan - "The Art of E-Commerce Growth Using Organic Internet Marketing"
Progressive florists who want to design or redesign the business of their dreams won't want to miss this entertaining multimedia presentation showing practical ways for florists to use websites, blogs, e-mail, social networking, and other innovative techniques to make the most of their wire service memberships, attract & market to their perfect customers, create customer loyalty, and get control of their twenty-first century businesses.
Attendees will experience a presentation that offers enjoyable ways to develop a personal internet marketing plan that uses e-commerce to serve them through the year, align with their dreams, desires, interests, and allow them to live the way they want!
Dottie Harrigan is an outspoken advocate of the floral industry, passionate speaker, and enthusiastic presenter who loves sharing her valuable insights and uplifting perspectives with those who serve through the medium of flowers. She is the author of two e-Books Roses, Roses, Roses! and Blooms; she's the creator of the little gift book Flowers Are Love's Truest Language; the founder Flowerhandlers®; and the voice of "The Flower Godmother." Dottie is a positive storyteller for the whole floral industry. With over 30 successful years of floristry background – in various forms of retail (traditional, independent, and mass merchant); working with wholesalers, distributors, importers and growers; writing, teaching, and consulting with every aspect of the floral industry – her point of view is one of unconditional high regard for all components of the industry. Her audiences (California State Florists Assn., Michigan State Florists Assn., National Alliance of Floral Associations, and Middle Atlantic Florists Assn.) have left enthused, energized, and eager to continue their floral journey with fresh new solutions for success in their twenty-first century floristry businesses. Dottie lives in Maryland with her husband of thirty-three years and can be reached at 301-249-1669, via www.DottieHarrigan.com, www.Flowerhandlers.com, or Dottie@Flowerhandlers.com.
Sarah Horne AIFD, CFD - "Hot Colours, Hot Trends: Concepts of Living Art"
Sarah is a multi award winning international floral designer having won numerous medals for Professional Floristry at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, including two Gold medals. A successful florist, running her own commercial business, Sarah Horne Flowers in Leamington Spa, England, she is aware of the importance of making sure that her floral studio is always creating designs that keep her clients coming back for more.
Ever the designer, Sarah is always keen to push the boundaries to the limits and this can be seen not only in her award winning competition designs but in her demonstrations to the floral world, encapsulating intricate and beautiful creations with skills and techniques that she shares with her audience. Over the years Sarah has been invited to demonstrate her technical and artistic skills at Hampton Court, Tatton Park and Chelsea flower shows and as far afield as America, Canada and Europe.
The educational information that Sarah shares is so worth attending one of her demonstrations or workshops for not to mention the inspiring designs that are created.
Sarah has an infectious passion for the floral industry and is a keen advocate of continuous professional development.
Sarah has recently been in collaboration with Jo Jarvis AIFD, CFD and created a book which is the culmination of ideas and inspiration, showing designs 'outside the box', Botanical Art - For Your Eyes Only. It celebrates living art – both man-made and man himself. A fresh, modern take on floral design is combined with artistic displays, making this a truly unique and inspirational coffee table and reference book. Perfect for those with an interest in any modern art form, especially floral design; this book is an inspiration for any aspiring florists.

Phil Rulloda AAF, AIFD, PFCI
- Advanced Floral Design Workshop
Phil will be conducting an intensive two-day "Hands-on" workshop Monday, March 28 and Tuesday, March 29 (after the Conference), covering the following topics: contemporary and geometric design; tropicals; exotics; foliage and braiding techniques; and armature designs. Click here to download his workshop flyer and registration form.
Phil is one of America's chief evangelists for floral design, celebrating his 44th year as a florist – an Ambassador of Sentiment.
Having amassed an incredible number of awards in national and international design competitions, Phil has presented more than 500 programs to tens of thousands of professional florists. He was the 2004 recipient of the Society of American Florists' Tommy Bright Award in recognition of his lifetime achievement in floral education and commentary. In 1991 he was the first recipient of AIFD's Award of Design Influence and in 2007 Phil and Cathy Hillen-Rulloda won AIFD's Award of Distinguished Service to the floral industry.
He is director of the Southern California School of Floral Design and co-owner of Avante Gardens – florals unique, both located in Anaheim, Calif.
Phil cites his two primary mentors and sources of inspiration as Silverio Casabar and Buddy Benz but says, "I learn from everyone I come in contact with."
Additionally, he says he is not so proud of his own accomplishments but more considers the measure of his worth by the many students who have gone on to excel in the industry. He believes that educators teach best what they need most themselves. His goal has most-importantly been to provide spiritual inspiration.
To his many students, he states, "You are my legacy."
