President's Message
I am so excited about the coming year! The Southern chapter has a lot to do to keep the ball rolling on several programs that have been
implemented by our Past Presidents as well as a lot of new ideas to
consider. The chapter will continue to work closely with the student
chapters as well as the AIR program. We also hope to create publicity
opportunities in the communities in which we visit as well as the
communities in which our chapter members live and work. We also have
several philanthropy opportunities that will be investigated enabling us
to give back to our communities.
Brita Edlbauer AIFD and Russ Barley AIFD, our convention chair and co-chair, have been working tirelessly to bring us a fabulous learning
experience in Orlando on April 13-15. "DIVERSITY" is the title of the
2012 Southern Symposium to be held at the Orlando Peabody Hotel and will feature a diverse group top notch designers. So be on the lookout for more information and please make plans to be there, you won't want to miss this spectacular event.
The Southern Chapter is also hosting the National Symposium in Miami in 2012. Sylvia Bird AIFD and Tina Stoecker AIFD are the chair and co-chair of this event and with these two working their magic "Caliente" will most defiantly be HOT HOT HOT! We are looking forward to helping them create an unbelievably exciting Symposium, so mark your calendars for July 11-16 and come enjoy some Southern sun, fun and hospitality.
If you weren't in San Francisco you missed a wonderful Symposium, the
programs were fantastic and the flower market was magnificent. It was a great time and the Southern inductees, members and students didn't hold back. Everywhere I looked they were jumping in to help wherever they were needed; from making bouquets for "Blooms," designing for the public exhibition, helping in the work room, playing the piano and everywhere in between. The new inductees proved to be an energetic, anxious to get started, hard working group. The Southern Chapter has a lot of work ahead, but with members like ours we can do anything! I am looking forward to being a part of this fantastic year with my AIFD family and friends at my side.
