Mississippi State's Soonryoung Oh
Tops AIFD Design Competition

(Baltimore, MD) -Jena Soonryoung Oh, a student with Mississippi State University in Mississippi State, Miss., won top honors in the American Institute of Floral Designers' (AIFD) 2007 Student Floral Design Competition. This competition was held in conjunction with AIFD's 2007 National Symposium in Palm Desert, Calif. (July 7-11).

Larisa Andreev of College of San Mateo and Megan Rudloff of Texas A&M placed second and third overall, respectively.

The competition consists of five categories. Soonryoung Oh also garnered first place in the "Flowers to Carry-Bouquet Design" category. Rudloff also garnered first place in the "Dried Design" category sponsored by Knud Nielson. Ulrike Kotak of City College of San Francisco placed first in "Buffet/Food Table Design" category. Ayako Ichiara, also of City College of San Francisco, finished first in the "Napkin Flower Decor" category, while Meredith Kubus of Ohio State University placed first in the "Sweetheart Table Design" category.

Kevin Ngwe of College of San Mateo won the People's Choice Award for best design as voted on by the general public.

Student AIFD (SAIFD) maintains chapters at 15 colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada. SAIFD Chapters not only compete in the Annual Student Design Competition during AIFD's National Symposium but also host Artist in Residence Programs throughout the year. Chapter members also receive sponsorships to attend the National Symposium from AIFD members and Industry Partners through the AIFD Foundation.

The 2008 National Symposium, "Collaboration…Floral Education" will be held in Chicago, Ill. (July 3-7, 2008).
