Triton College Sweeps Student Design Competition

BALTIMORE (July 14, 2009) – Triton College students made their mark on the American Institute of Floral Designers’ (AIFD) 2009 Student Floral Design Competition. Three students from the college brought home a combined total of six awards from the competition that was held as part of AIFD’s 2009 National Symposium in Kansas City, M.O. (July 11-16).
Donald "Donnie" Morey of Triton College garnered the People’s Choice Award, an award for best design as voted on by the general public, as well as placing 3rd in the Overall Category. Amber Corbett of Joliet Junior College and Nixon Tran of the City College of San Francisco garnered 1st and 2nd place in the same category respectively.
The competition consists of five categories: Overall, Buffet/Food Table Design, Napkin Floral Décor, Flowers to Carry – Bridal Bouquet Design, and Sweetheart Table Design. Kiola Millan of Triton College garnered first place in both the Buffet/Food Table Design category and the Sweetheart Table Design category. Amber Corbett of Joliet Junior College garnered first place in the Napkin Floral Décor category. Rupali Shete of Triton College garnered first place in the Flowers to Carry – Bridal Bouquet Design category.
Student AIFD (SAIFD) maintains chapters at 15 colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada. SAIFD Chapters not only compete in the Annual Student Design Competition during AIFD's National Symposium but also host Artist in Residence Programs throughout the year. Chapter members also receive sponsorships to attend the National Symposium from AIFD members and Industry Partners through the AIFD Foundation.
